YOGA & PILATES SESSIONS

Classes that build strength, flexibility & body awareness.

Yoga helps us to create more fluidity in life, where we physically and emotionally notice resistance. We breathe to move, we breathe to soften.

Movement for modern life.

Yoga and Pilates are distinct practices that together create a comprehensive physical and spiritual routine, enhancing strength, flexibility, and body awareness. After years teaching combined classes, it's remarkable to see how these seemingly opposite approaches complement each other. While yoga promotes flexibility and fluid, Pilates provides the strength, structure, and stability necessary for a balanced practice. In life, both elements are essential.

YOGA
Yoga is not just about physical postures (Asana); it also encompasses breath work (Pranayama), meditation, and philosophical teachings woven throughout the classes. The poses stretch and lengthen muscles and connective tissues, enhancing movement, posture, and flexibility. This practice fosters a sense of openness in the body, improves breathing capacity, and helps release emotional and energetic blockages. Classes often revolve around a theme or peak pose, deepening our understanding of personal growth while using physical practice as a means to explore our needs. Through yoga, we learn to let go of the Ego, becoming more mindful, compassionate, and patient in our interactions with the world.

PILATES
Pilates focuses on cultivating body awareness from the core, strengthening deep muscles to support the spine and enhance movement control. This low-impact, full-body workout emphasizes slow, controlled movements, adhering to principles such as breathing, concentration, and precision. In Pilates, you learn to engage your core effectively, refining habitual movements and noting the subtleties in your body. Despite its low-impact nature, it is one of the most challenging forms of exercise, relying on muscle strength and flexibility rather than momentum. Like yoga, Pilates emphasizes body and breath awareness, helping you understand your body's signals, identify strong and weak muscles, and recognize where you hold tension, ultimately guiding you toward optimal well-being.

Whats the difference?

Yoga highlights the connection between the mind and body, providing physical advantages such as strength, flexibility, and balance, often incorporating meditation. In contrast, Pilates concentrates on core strength through a series of structured exercises that gradually increase in difficulty. While there are many different styles of yoga Pilates generally adheres to a consistent set of exercises, allowing for progression with guidance from the teacher.

What's right for my body?

Yoga and PIlates classes are suitable for all ages and abilities. As they both have contrasting styles and guidance its always encouraged to try both! We gain the benefit of emotional wellbeing and mental relief within yoga practices and gain full body strength and control within Pilates. Every classes has layers and modifications allowing you to move at your own pace, your own way. Layers can be stripped back to simple variations for a connected approach that builds honest progress and for those who are familiar and have an established practice will be offered deeper layers that do not hinder the foundations and principles they have already built. Classes are all always varied to keep things fresh, postures and exercises are demonstrated and broken down for deeper understanding. Questions and feedback are always encouraged in class to help us build more of an understanding of how we can improve and get the most of our practice. Your body and mind will feel different each day so it's nice to explore one or the other at any given time. Yoga & PIlates are suitable for every one, if you find the right teacher you'll feel at home within both and love the playful contrast.
